This was recorded at the height of analog technology both in synthetic music and recording. The immersive effect just doesn't get any better. Tomita does wonderful renditions of these classical works. The Bolero was the low light for me. It's not bad, it's just the rest is so much better. Highly recommended.

If you have multi-channel playback facilities for SACD then this is a no-brainer for Tomita fans.

Following the 1980 vinyl LP "Bolero" and 1984 CD "The Ravel Album", this multi-channel/stereo album has been a long time coming, but in my opinion it has been well worth the wait. A sensitive and lush transfer of a 40-year-old recording from, I assume, the original quadraphonic analogue master tapes.

Tomita's arrangements of classical pieces using electronic instruments never sound "mechanical"; they flow and breath as if under the command of a human conductor instead of a digital sequencer. They are capable of provoking emotional responses of ecstasy and elation, and on this disc they do that in spades.

Tomita’s arrangements for synths may not be to everyone's tastes, but his talent for creating unexpected and beautiful timbres and his command of the technology of the period are undeniable.

This is one of Tomita’s best and really needs to be heard in quad to fully appreciated It’s an extremely immersive surround experience, in which all 4 speakers are used equally. It’s like eating a box of Whitman’s chocolates; not every piece is going to be the same or of equal quality, but every bite is sweet and strangely satisfying. What would Ravel say to this? Who cares?! Enjoy this guilty pleasure.
