Helen Reddy has a unique voice, and some of her most iconic hits are included on this SACD (I Am Woman, This Masquerade, Leave Me Alone). Most tracks are fine, with some good covers by Helen Reddy of And I Love You So & Delta Dawn. Hit The Road Jack patently doesn't suit her unique voice, whereas The Last Blues Song with a jazz style backing does. The surprise track to me is an audiophile sounding take of the MOR classic 'The Old-Fashioned Way’ the instrumentation and her voice sound on this sound incredible whether in Multi-Channel (demo quality) or Stereo. Multi-Channel has Helen's voice slightly forward of front loudspeakers, a fair amount of instrumentation throughout the quad sound stage, with light percussion at rear channels, the quad sounds immersive and natural. The SACD Stereo layer in its own right was excellent, full of detail, and ambient. I don't normally hear much if any difference between CD and SACD layers, but in this case the SACD audibly sounds more natural with a wider sound stage. If you like Helen Reddy, this is a must have SACD. Would hope more of her quad albums get released in the future, it would be a treat to hear her iconic Angie Baby in quad.

I had both these albums on vinyl and later on cd. This new remaster is rich and full without being overly compressed. The instrumentation is crisp and Helen's voice is front and centre in the mix. Listening to this made me miss the days of strings and horns and live musicians. I'd happily purchase the rest of Helen's catalogue if reproduced in these fine, sacd hybrid versions.
