An outstanding two-fer of country instrumental music, featuring the legendry Chet Atkins and other superb musicians. If this is your type of music, then this SACD is thoroughly recommended.

The first album Superpickers is a classic, perhaps rawer of the two, with some brass and harmonica/fiddle accompanying the largely ‘picked’ instruments. The second album ‘Picks the Best’ with added strings sounds more easy listening instrumental. Both albums are great.

Sound wise is top notch, thanks once again to the sterling re-mastering by Michael Dutton. Even tried some tracks played back in mono, and they sounded musical and pleasant without weird phase effects. The quadrophonic mix is amazing, and a go to album to demo quad to newcomers. The first track ‘Paramaribo’ perfect for this, immersive, with the right back and left back main instruments later in the mix producing suitably ‘wow’ moments.

The stereo layer is also brilliant quality; and to my amazement depth of field was sufficient through open backed Sennheiser headphones to pick out instrument locations, matching the quad mix.
