Splitting Dudes over 2 discs is annoying but I can see that Vocalion had no choice really. Dudes and Mott together clock in over 80 minutes which is too long for a CD. More annoying is the gap between Jewel and Dudes.

The Hoople quad mix wasn’t done by the band and they weren’t keen on it. I’ve only played it in stereo and I won’t be going back to it. It’s good that it’s out there and maybe it’s better in surround.

The music is of course great and so is the sound. Lots of detail. It’s fabulous.

Whenever I buy modern releases in the digital domain, I'm always concerned that I'll end up buying something that is painful on the ears and a victim of loudness wars style mastering. Cast those worries aside, because this SACD containing three classic Mott albums is beautifully mastered, it has full dynamic range, nice EQ choices and just the right amount of bottom end. Do yourselves a favour and grab this disc while you can because it's a beauty!

My highest hopes from this are that the original masters of the Mott The Hoople Live 2 CD set which were Recorded and broadcast in 4 Channel surround via the king biscuit flower hour get the 4 channel treatment. Boy wold that be special!!!! Ratings based on the original 16 bit 1411 CDs. I will be back with review of the 24 bit 2.0 & 4.0 remasters

You can never go wrong with Mott the Hoople and would similarly love to hear more Mott the Hoople / Ian Hunter / Mott / British Lions material released like this...
