Simply the best recording of Carmina Burana there is. A recording conceived from the start to be an immersive experience and what an experience it is. About 30 years ago I saw Carmina Burana performed live as a BALLET. The dancers were on the stage, the orchestra in the pit and the vocalists and chorus all around the audience. Up until now that was the ultimate Carmina Burana for me. This recording replaces that memory. It just doesn't get any better. I was unfamiliar with the Beethoven choral works, but the performance and immersive effect are all very good. I think the incidental music to King Stephen stands out.
The American in Paris is also a great immersive experience. The Rhapsody in Blue was a bit of a letdown for me. It is the jazz orchestra version rarely played and the piano is from a 1925 piano roll of George Gershwin himself. This certainly makes it a historical recording, but my personal bias is toward the symphonic version.

Again, Dutton Vocalion gives you the next best thing to the master tape. Full dynamic range with proper EQ. Seems simple doesn't it? Well it is not. This is the best version I have heard of this fine performance and in full discreet SACD quad. A revelation over past stereo versions which were pretty good. Get it.
