Stokowski was quite old when this recording was made (1974), but he was one of Mahler's biggest promoters during the first part of the last century. This interpretation is one of the best (if not the best) I've ever heard. (And I have 9 different recordings and have heard it live twice.) Stokowski's conducting is vibrant and soulful. It was recorded in quadraphonic so the SACD makes it sound like you are at the conductor's podium.

I can't recommend this disc highly enough. If you are a Mahler fan, or even simply a classical music buff, this is a must-have recording.
